My name is Luke, I am 20 years old, and in September I joined Aliaxis UK as a Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician.
What made you choose an apprenticeship?
This apprenticeship gives me the opportunity to earn, and achieve my Level 3 in Engineering with Cambridge Regional College. I spend three days a week at college learning all of the theory, and then the other two days in the factory at Huntingdon applying that knowledge! This apprenticeship also gives me the opportunity to work directly with some great people who have lots of experience in the industry.
What made you choose Aliaxis?
I saw the Aliaxis job advertised and it was by far the best I had seen. My dad used to work over the road to here, and only had positive things to say about Aliaxis - especially the opportunities for growth and progression!
What’s your favourite thing about your apprenticeship?
My favourite thing is definitely the one to one training and support I get from the engineers. There’s really experienced people around me with ten or more years’ experience in the industry, and they take the time to show me the ropes and involve me in their work.
How do you plan to apply your apprenticeship?
My main focus right now is to get good grades at college, so I can get qualified and apply that knowledge to my job! I am really keen to keep learning and growing through both hands-on experience and courses.
Would you recommend apprenticeships to others?
100% yes! I suggested an apprenticeship to my younger brother after he leaves school, as they really do give a great balance between both the learning and the experience. You’re also almost guaranteed a position for life with the right course and company! At Aliaxis I have met people who joined as apprentices at 16 and are here now as engineers over ten years on.
